  • Mulan
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • Pirates of the Caribbean

  • India Jones & (everything)
  • The Goonies
  • Lord of the Rings
  • Lost Boys
  • The Fifth Element
  • Lawrence of Arabia
  • Harry Potter
  • Lilo and Stitch

Here are three costume ideas to make costumes at home and not spend a small fortune on cheaply made costumes that will always end up in the garbage.

Thor - God of Thunder

Of course, the principal character is Thor himself. He wears a suit of armor with his signature red cloak and his magical hammer. The red cloak can be made from any piece of fabric but it should not be too heavy which will weigh you down. Thor's armor can be made from cardboard. Cut out the shapes and stick them together with some hot glue and some twine. Cardboard boxes of the type used for large appliance packaging will be the most suitable. Once you have achieved the desirable armor design, you can paint the armor with a mix of black and white to get a dark & light shadow grey affect.  The hammer can also be made of cardboard or you can just put a hammer in your belt. If anyone asks, just say that it's magic and only when you fight evil does the hammer expand to be the terrifying tool to evil.

The Green Lantern

The suit can be made from a Kelly green leotard with a turtle neck. Black boots would be very suitable to complete the outfit. The best style of the boot is space-age and or Gothic. The Green Lantern movie costume ring is available for purchase from a major children's toy store. It can also be made from green wax, cardboard or wood. The mask can be painted on or you can make a simple green mask.

Avatar Movie Costumes

The most popular Avatar costume for ladies is naturally the Avatar Neytiri costume.  But you can make your own Avtar costumes at home and for less than $40. Here is a great Instructables How To for making your own Avatar costume.  LINK

Crafty Days

Art Days For Kids of Different Ages

Kids and crafts positively affects kids in numerous ways. Just some of the positive affects include

LACS youngster artist
  • Builds positive self-image
  • Encourages self-discipline
  • Rewards difficult work and diligence
  • Encourages eye-hand coordination
  • Cultivates a love of learning
  • Fosters cooperation with others
  • Encourages their imagination

Some people believe that kids and being crafty is nothing but messy and hard to organize, especially if you have kids of different ages…which is why some people believe it's not really worth the effort till they got slightly older. But once you discover age-appropriate crafts that work with different age children and get a little crafty organized, the parental positive aspects start rolling in...

Many parents have discovered that once they get things rolling:

  • Youngsters argued less among on their own when they just get to do whatever their minds decide to do (with boundaries of course.)
  • Self-discipline grew to become easier and less parent necessary
  • They played with each other far better, even created their very own little games
  • Older children often start to help younger ones and have even started to volunteer a little more with housework.

When kids start to do crafting projects that they feel they can do all on their own or with help from an adult they grow to become less complicated to manage during art time. One problem that can occur though is coming up with new ideas. Some kids want to do the same exact craft every time and others want to do something different. One suggestion is to keep art time open for any idea that uses the same kind of art supplies.

Mondays - only paints
Wednesdays - only crayons

Crafts and kids do not have to be super complicated. There are a lot of ideas available for ideas on how to make simple and entertaining projects. Many of the items homes throw away can be used in crafty days

  • Toilet paper rolls can be made into superhero cuffs
  • T-shirts can be painted on or transformed into costumes
  • Old clothing can be re-made into doggie costumes
  • Plastic bottles can be painted or covered with pretty paper or fabric
  • Hallowed out eggs can be a great blank canvas for older children to paint on.

Let your imagination open and invite your kids to explore theirs. Do you have a favorite craft idea that works for all ages? What do you do with kids of different ages?
