Here are three costume ideas to make costumes at home and not spend a small fortune on cheaply made costumes that will always end up in the garbage.
Thor - God of Thunder
Of course, the principal character is Thor himself. He wears
a suit of armor with his signature red cloak and his magical hammer. The red
cloak can be made from any piece of fabric but it should not be too heavy which
will weigh you down. Thor's armor can be made from cardboard. Cut out the
shapes and stick them together with some hot glue and some twine. Cardboard
boxes of the type used for large appliance packaging will be the most suitable.
Once you have achieved the desirable armor design, you can paint the armor with
a mix of black and white to get a dark & light shadow grey affect. The hammer can also be made of cardboard or
you can just put a hammer in your belt. If anyone asks, just say that it's
magic and only when you fight evil does the hammer expand to be the terrifying
tool to evil.
The Green Lantern
The suit can be made from a Kelly green leotard with a turtle
neck. Black boots would be very suitable to complete the outfit. The best style
of the boot is space-age and or Gothic. The Green Lantern movie costume ring is
available for purchase from a major children's toy store. It can also be made
from green wax, cardboard or wood. The mask can be painted on or you can make a
simple green mask.
Avatar Movie Costumes
The most popular Avatar costume for ladies is naturally the
Avatar Neytiri costume. But you can make
your own Avtar costumes at home and for less than $40. Here is a great Instructables
How To for making your own Avatar costume. LINK
